Hello, my name is Luis Torres and I thank you for taking the time to read my biography. I was born in Puerto Rico and have lived in many parts of the United States having been an Air Force veteran. I left the service thirty-five years ago and have called Florida home ever since. As an attorney, I have a strong drive to help my clients which I learned from my parents who moved to the U.S., from Puerto Rico to pursue the American dream. I saw both my parents labor tirelessly without fail, working from the early morning hours into the late evening to support my brother and me.
Before becoming an attorney, I worked for over 25 years in the insurance industry as a manager and adjuster handling both personal auto and commercial carrier cases involving serious injuries and wrongful death. Having the opportunity to work as a claims manager in several large insurance companies, I learned valuable information about the insurance industry and how insurance adjusters value claims. After a lengthy career managing claims, I decided to go to Barry University School of Law, to help clients, instead of the big insurance companies who are mostly concerned with profits.
Knowing that personal injury was my calling, I joined the Barry Law trial team where I competed in mock trial events. While at Barry, I also worked as an extern with the juvenile justice program and advocated for young clients by investigating their cases, deposing witnesses, and arguing in juvenile court. For a brief period of time, I worked at a smaller law firm as a litigation attorney filing complaints, attending hearings, mediations and taking depositions.
