Meet Our Attorneys
Hi, I am Melissa Lewis. I am a Florida native, raised primarily in Jacksonville, Florida. It was during my high school years that my aspiration to become a lawyer developed. Although my father was employed in the legal field throughout my childhood, it was not until I was a teenager that I really understood the importance of the legal system in our society. A local nine year old girl was kidnapped. As the prosecution of the suspect in this crime unfolded, I sympathized with her family and I saw that justice for them was achieved by lawyers. I was overwhelmed by the desire to help others and decided to become a lawyer. I attended the University of Florida in Gainesville and pursued degrees in Psychology and Criminology. Despite my studies in these fields, my desire to become a lawyer was unfettered. After graduation, and a summer internship with the State Attorney’s Office, I accepted a position as a Legal Assistant at a small personal injury firm in my hometown. As an assistant, it was my responsibility to oversee nearly all communication with clients. I did my best to give each one the personal attention they deserved. The experience was invaluable and strengthened my interest in counseling clients. As I worked each case, I listened to the client and learned about the dramatic effects an accident can have on every aspect of his or her life and the lives of his or her family. I soon understood that passionately seeking compensation for the injured clients we had the privilege to represent was the best way to help them through their most difficult times.
I attended law school at Florida Coastal School of Law and continued to work at the firm in Jacksonville. I was honored when an Associate position was created for me and I began practicing law. I then was able to use all of the skills I learned as an assistant, how to communicate and empathize with auto accident victims and how to gather all information vital to presenting a claim, to successfully obtain settlements for their cases. However, my work was not finished until all medical bill balances were resolved and my client could walk away from their case without the baggage of any medical debt. It was, and continues to be, my goal to put every penny I can into the hands of my clients.
In 2013, my husband and I relocated our family to the Orlando and the Central Florida area to pursue new career opportunities. I could not bear to leave the personal injury arena and began working at a larger firm. I continued my work fighting for injured plaintiffs and was able to help many more.
I truly enjoy standing up for the rights of others. I am proud to be a part of the team at Dan Newlin Injury Attorneys and I am committed to helping our clients obtain the compensation they deserve.
