My name is Dean M. Bartzokis, and I have been representing victims for my entire career. I descend from my great grandmother, Eleni; who was the victim of execution by firing squad during the communist occupation of Greece. Her ‘charge’ was allowing her children to escape the militarized village to safety, and the ‘trial’ involved a communist decisionmaker who allowed no defense. After her death, my family, led by my grandmother, sought refuge and opportunity in the United States of America. My family’s plight was memorialized in the critically acclaimed novel and film Eleni, with lead actor John Malkovich playing my Godfather.
My parents raised me with a strong emphasis on patriotism and law & order with a high moral character as a tribute to the sacrifices my family made to provide me with opportunity. With these lessons learned, my desire to protect & serve my community led to the State Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor for Orange County, Florida. I represented thousands of victims, including those involved in auto accidents, by prosecuting defendants for charges ranging from vehicular homicide to DUI manslaughter.
After completing my service, I joined one of the most prestigious criminal defense firms in order to continue representing those wrongfully prosecuted by the government. By representing those wrongfully accused and protecting each and every person’s basic freedoms, I honed my litigation skills by trying over fifty trials to verdict and handled well over two hundred and fifty evidentiary hearings – challenging evidence illegally obtained and ensuring my client’s constitutional rights were not trampled over by overzealous prosecution. In addition to other awards, I received high recognition for my efforts as a Martindale-Hubbell® “AV Preeminent” attorney – a top rating received by my peers in the central Florida legal community.
