Hello, my name is Nicola Papy. I was born in New Orleans and moved to Tampa when I was four years old, so I consider myself a native Floridian. Growing up, I watched my mother care for her patients every day in her medical practice. I knew then that I wanted to help others as an adult. I attended the University of Florida, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Criminology. Next, I attended Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia.
After graduating from law school, I returned home to Tampa and began my legal career working as a prosecutor at the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office. The State Attorney’s Office was a perfect fit because it allowed me to combine my desire to help others and get trial experience as soon as possible. I spent fifteen years representing the people of the State of Florida. During my tenure, I worked my way from a misdemeanor attorney to a felony division chief, where I led six other attorneys and support staff. I tried hundreds of cases, from petit theft to first-degree murder, argued countless motions, and was able to practice in front of many different judges.
After the State Attorney’s Office, I became in-house counsel for one of the nation’s largest automobile insurance companies. This allowed me to learn how insurance companies evaluate claims and the techniques and strategies used by insurance defense lawyers to minimize financial recovery. After several years of defending bodily injury claims, I knew it was time to return to my original passion of helping and representing those in need, just as I had done as a prosecutor. I am so grateful that Mr. Newlin allowed me to join his firm. I know that I am working with the best attorneys, and we all have the same goal; to bring justice to you!
